Poland Says Cyberattacks on Critical Infrastructure Rising, Blames Russia (reuters.com) 26

An anonymous reader shares a report: Poland's critical infrastructure has been subject to a growing number of cyberattacks by Russia, whose military intelligence, has trebled its resources for such action against Poland this year, the country's digital affairs minister told Reuters. Of the 170,000 cyber incidents that have been identified in the first three quarters of this year, a significant portion has been attributed to Russian actors, while other cases are financially motivated, involving theft or other forms of cybercrime, Krzysztof Gawkowski said.

He said Poland is a subject to between 2,000 and 4,000 incidents a day and that 700 to 1,000 are "taken up by us, meaning they posed a real threat or had the potential to cause serious problems," he said. Foreign adversaries are now expanding their focus beyond water and sewage systems to the energy sector, he said.

Russia is doing everything it can to escalate itself into WWIII. Unfortunately, it makes sense from Putin's perspective since the only thing propping up Russia's economy, and thus his tenure in power, is war.

In a sense it has already begun. Russia has made multiple attacks on people, arms stores and arms factories throughout NATO lands. That includes a suspicious fire at the Scranton arms factory in Pennsylvania and a number of others [newsweek.com], that includes Russian agents caught sending explosives to Germany, Poland and the UK [bbc.com], having blown up a big arms depot in Bulgaria and multiple assassinations and attempted assassinations on NATO lands. On the other hand, they don't want to escalate into open war now. They aren't ready until they hope to rebuild their army with the profit from Ukraine. That's still the main game and what has to be stopped. The current attacks into Poland, Denmark and Germany with drones have the aim of keeping air defenses away from Ukraine. We shouldn't allow ourselves to be fooled and we need our governments to support Ukraine more.

Russia is not doing everything it can to start WW3. If Putin wants WW3 then all he needs to do is "touch the boats" like Japan did in the start of WW2. I know that there are people that will claim that WW2 started in late 1939 but I can make a case that it wasn't a global war until 1941 when Japan touched America's boats and initiated direct involvement from nations on the American continents. Yes, you are correct. The draft dodger is not a soldier and has little regard for the military, criticizing Gold Star families and mocking those who died.

However, the reason nothing will happen while he's around is because he admires Putin. Remember when he held up a picture of he and Putin after the Alaska meeting and said he was going to sign it [go.com] and send it to Putin? It's the same reason he has not put real sanctions on Russia despit
        • Anything that would make Putin look bad, Trump won't do.

What do you expect President Trump to do? Mock the man to his face? Is that how anyone negotiates for peace? Or restoring trade of food for fuel?

I can point to how Zelenskyy handled his first meeting with Trump in the White House as how to not negotiate. The first mistake Zelenskyy made was to show up in his pseudo-fatigues. I can understand that while in Ukraine, in a state of open conflict, he'd want to dress like he's a military leader. Since he's the commander in chief than a commissioned officer

      • Consider how WW2 would have looked if it was UK that executed some kind of preemptive attack on Germany

Well, UK has declared war on Germany on 1939-09-03, then done nothing for a year until Germany was done with Poland and France, then started attacking them for real. Thus, a "preemptive" attack wouldn't be a big deal...

Don't believe everything you hear as Ursula wants to make you believe a Russian could show up at your bedside in the middle of the night.

  • you know this, But you choose to do nothing. You are playing into their hands. If russia wants a war, Fucking give them one. They are at a very weak point at this given moment and now is the best time to strike before this gets out of hand. Move, Or forever take your fate.

    • Here's the thing.....if you have someone who is in charge of things who doesn't care if you nuke his country, it's a problem. A big one.

How long has that war been going on now? About 1200 years, more or less?

  • If countries like russia can implement a "firewall" blocking their citizens from accessing the rest of the world, surely the rest of the world could block Russia? I guess they would work around that somehow, but fuck russia, they bring nothing of value to the world, only grief and lies.

I don't care how much you hate a country, attacking their sewage system is just a shitty thing to do.

I mean, seriously. That's just a low down, cold thing to do.

Don't fuck with the sewage man. Leave that shit alone.

Russia is waging a war on infrastructure, and with winter approaching in Europe that will make repairs difficult. We are coming up on three years since Russia invaded Ukraine and Russia will want to create a miserable winter for Europe in order to have more time and space for another invasion as spring comes.

It was no accident that Russia invaded in February. That's the time of coming out of winter, the ground and many rivers would still be frozen to allow for the

  • Just had a big fire at a refinery. Having read about Ukraine blowing up Russian refineries almost daily for the last few weeks, and Trump slowly backing off from his calls for Ukraine to capitulate, I have to wonder if that wasn't a Russian sabotage operation.

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. Shit does happen. But the timing is suspicious.

Regardless, Russia is a terrorist state, and it needs to be made small again. The only question is how much additional pain we're going to allow them to cause before we force
