Microsoft Makes Copilot Less Useful on New Copilot Plus PCs (theverge.com) 48
An anonymous reader shares a report: Microsoft launched its range of Copilot Plus PCs earlier this week, and they all come equipped with the new dedicated Copilot key on the keyboard. It's the first big change to Windows keyboards in 30 years, but all the key does now is launch a Progressive Web App (PWA) version of Copilot. The web app doesn't even integrate into Windows anymore like the previous Copilot experience did since last year, so you can't use Copilot to control Windows 11 settings or have it docked as a sidebar anymore. It's literally just a PWA. Microsoft has even removed the keyboard shortcut to Copilot on these new Copilot Plus PCs, so WINKEY + C does nothing.

The person handling this situation is also ... whatever else.
- helping idiots who ordered online and then their phone died and don't have any confirmation when they show up
- helping idiots who promptly trip over their own shoelaces and dump part of the order on the floor (even if you want the idiot to just start over and order and pay for replacements -- someone still has to sweep and mop the mess, put out the no tripping sign, identify that there is a mess to deal with in the first place) -- but most customers kind of expect 'free replacements' at least up to the point they get it to their car.
- handle forgotten extras request (extra fork, hot sauce, mustard packets, double bag it please, these fries look old, can do it again without salt I forgot to ask for no salt, also, I need salt packets.
- they also have to hand you your order which may be a single item, or several trays or bags worth, some containing liquids.
- odds are they packed it for you too
- he also calls the police when some idiot who is high as fuck passes out in the corner, or pulls his dick out, or
- changes the light bulbs when they burn out
- notices when the door handle is broken, props it open for customers, and calls in for maintenance
- cleans up the chocolate ice-cream fingerprints your daughter left on the window, the counter, and the wall while you were picking up your order

You totally ignored the "The person in my situation" in my statement and went on a rant about people walking into the restaurant. Most places like McD's have a separate person for drive through (sometimes two for the busy hours) from those at the counter.

A large proportion of the work at at place like McDs is peripheral to your actual assigned 'position' except during rush hour, doesn't matter what that position is.
Whether its counter staff or drive through... that staff member is cross trained and does double duty to help cover other peoples breaks. And they lend a hand with closing or other maintenance activities. They drop fries or chicken into the friers as needed. They only have that during the summer; normally it's just Apple Pie, or "Holiday" Pie around Christmas, and Pumpkin in the fall. I am sorry to hear you feel that you are so replaceable though.

Ethereum worked out well for me. Bought a GPU, and when it wasn't gaming, it was mining. The electricity was about 3 cents a kilowatt, with rooftop solar reducing the cost even further. Even though the graphics card prices were high at the time, I paid exactly MSRP and the card more than paid for itself over time.

If you're just concerned about the power consumption, don't worry, I generate electricity well in excess of my consumption of it.

I bought 20+ and they all paid for themselves.
I was also able to offload the GPUs when it was pretty high and sell the ETH at its all time high. So much profit.
I was the writing on the wall when the proof of work was being removed in ETH. Got out before that in GPU and ETH.

We can't stop progress just because someone needs a job. Where would we be now if we thought that way during the beginning of the Industrial Revolution? There are just too many things that AI, can do, or has the potential to do in the future, much faster and better than any human could ever. It may not be there yet, but it has great potential to further our species along. I do feel human generated art has way more value than that of AI, so we do need a way to distinguish AI generated art from that of hu

Yep. It is almost like they would like to get rid of Windows or kill it. Considering the mess it is, I can relate. Also note that they are now making most of their profits with Azure. Hence I think they do not even really care about Windows (and Office and the end-user) anymore.
