    There will always be a place for small custom solutions, because it is impossible to make a one size fits all application. I think this is particularly true in the Web Services arena.
  • Small vendors beware, you may be relegated to the scrap heap when big business integrates your idea for free. In other words, patent your shit, wait for them to integrate, then sue.

    My company is a niche market software provider. Hopefully MS won't come into my area (doubtful).

    That is not going to happen because too many of the people running these small businesses have personal relationships with their customers.
    .. and their customers happen to be small businesses themselves.
