An anonymous reader quotes a report from ZDNet: This year, artificial intelligence will be dominated by the maturation of AI code as corporate "workers" that can take over corporate processes and be managed just like employees, according to a year-outlook blog post disseminated by investment bank Goldman Sachs featuring its chief information officer, Marco Argenti. "The capabilities of AI models to plan and execute complex, long-running tasks on humans' behalf will begin to mature," writes Argenti. "This will create the conditions for companies to eventually 'employ' and train AI workers to be part of hybrid teams of humans and AIs working together."
"There's a great opportunity for capital to move towards the application layer, the toolset layer," says Goldman Sachs CIO Marco Argenti. I wonder the legal challenges (Score:3)
Who do you convict when an AI cooks the books? What boundaries have to be in place, and how will they be tested? Is there a CPA dataset? Will an AI respond when your checks are late? Does an AI employee get SEC subpoenas?
Or is this wicked blame throwing incarnate-- the AI did it! No harm no foul, don't sue us, sue the AI! AIs have no assets, of course, but sue the AI anyway!

Look, this guy is a doofus, AI tools don't change anything fundamental about how a business operates, don't overthink it. C suite at that level is all about trying to sound smart with the latest buzzwords.

This is already the case in some countries when there is loss of life due to a product failure which is certified to be safe.

What happens when you lack enough human oversight to realize that ALL the AI's cooked the books because of one inferred word in a prompt?
What needs to happen is the SEC needs to hold "AI" agents to the same responsibility as human ones, which means that if an AI causes damage to the company from doing something incorrectly, whoever trained it and whoever prompted it is held directly responsible. So you get one AI to monitor another one, until they're in cahoots, and teaching other ones bad tricks. Or if you shut one down, how do you do forensics? You don't.

First of all, everything is nonsense because it's all predictions. There is no cost or consequence to his false predictions so this is as good as fiction.
Second, why AI was employees, why not AI as bosses? I can see middle level management being replaced much easier than a coder. It can analyze all your pull requests, assign your tasks, plan general directions for the product, take all inputs and make a plan.
I can see AI replacing bosses as well. Or, is AI going to replace workers from the bottom up. The coders go first, the team lead next and the managers next and so on.

Who knows maybe THE EXECUTIVE knows all about it but here in the real world these agents are all sandbox toys that nobody deploys in production... not least because anything they can do SUCCESSFULLY and without sending proprietary data to third parties can already be done reliably and deterministically using other techniques.
