Massive Hack Hits Reddit (zdnet.com) 147

Also these boards are topic based, so they have leeway to make sure it stays on topic. If I ran a board about Electric Cars, and it goes into some political rant, I may delete these threads not because I Agree or Disagree with the content, nor am I trying to stop these people about speaking out about a topic they feel strongly about. It is just that the conversation went too far off topic.
Every group and topic, has good people and bad people. every person has good views and bad views, often they will not know the difference. We as mentally healthy people don't wake up and figure what villainous thing we should do today. We actually try to do what we think is right. However we are fed information that can lead us onto the wrong direction in which we will do the wrong thing, things that villains do. Being Strong and Confident can quickly make you a Bully. Being Direct and Honest of your feelings can make you insensitive and cruel. Being Quick on your feet lead to you jumping to conclusions.
Proper moderation basically makes sure that we as a people have a map to follow of right and wrong. Sometimes this will change direction and things that use to be acceptable are no longer as much so. So either you can adjust yourself, or fight to change the direction. The first option is usually easier than the second, and many time the second isn't worth it. Eg. in the 1980's it was considered OK to make fun of Gay people. Today for the most part we know better, as we have experience more people open about their sexual preferences, and see them as humans with the same issues that we have. So we have changed our societal stance, the groups who are holding back on this, are putting more and more effort into a losing battle, with very little to gain.
