Israeli Court Rules NSO Group Can Continue Exporting Spyware (vice.com) 39

The infamous spyware company NSO Group scored a major win in what critics are calling a "disgraceful ruling" in an Israeli court this week. From a report: The court ruled that NSO can keep exporting its hacking and surveillance tools, arguing that the human rights organization Amnesty International, which had sued the company in an attempt to block its exports, failed to prove that an NSO customer used its technology to spy on Amnesty staff. In 2018, as Motherboard reported at the time, Amnesty claimed to have found hackers spying on one of the organization's researchers using NSO spyware. After the incident, the organization sued NSO in Israel in an attempt to block the export of its surveillance technology. A Tel Aviv District Court judge dismissed the suit alleging Amnesty did not present enough evidence, and said Israel's Defence Ministry, which is tasked with overseeing the export of surveillance technologies, has the right safeguards in place to protect human rights.

  • I thought this was just PR department

  • Lets just cut to the chase here. Fuck the politics and bullshit.

Regardless of how you feel about Israel or any other state for that matter that is doing the same fucking thing Russia, USA, UK, China, you name it is doing. Their jobs are to secure their states and that is what they are going to do.

Amnesty International is a different beast altogether. They claim their objectives are for humanity when instead, the result is everyone ignoring the plight of the people running from the shitholes they are bein

They claim their objectives are for humanity when instead, the result is everyone ignoring the plight of the people running from the shitholes they are being slaughtered in while no one does shit about it except blaming big nations while simultaneously saying that they should not interfere.

What? I tried hard but honestly couldn't understand what point you're trying to make. The result of what? Can you give examples?

      • Lol, you need examples? This article is one of them.

They are crying about Israel exporting spyware, but how much time does Amnesty International expend against nations trying to actively hurt Israel?

How about the whole mass migration going on around the world? There is a long establish moratorium on "imperialism" where governments invade other nations or extend their influence into their borders. So now that no one is allowed to invade other nations you do the next thing. You tell nations that have got

Sorry, SirAstral, I'm still struggling to recognize the logical connections in the argument you're making. I'll try to tease out what I think it might be...

Q1. Are your complaints related to the current article? Do you think that Amnesty, in trying to stop NSO from exporting spyware, has resulted in migrations?

Q2. I don't understand how your Israel angle stacks up. Amnesty wanted NSO not to export its spyware out of Israel. This wasn't an attack against the state of Israel, nor against the ability of Israel

  • They have been doing that for more than a decade throughout EU:

    - Get list of targets, standing iin their way.
    - mark them for further work
    - compromise them in some way ( upload pedo r0n oin their comp/phone, extort them throuhgh their spouse/kids etc)
    - use Anti-terror NATO security infrastructure on them

Just few days ago they "harvested" 30.000 new "pedophiles" in Germany:

BUt ofcourse, only those outside of EU.

    • Uum, I know about the "upload incriminating evidence, then report them" strategy. In fact I could trivially do it to somebody myself. (Though I have no interest in ever looking up pedo stuff for this. I'm already traumatized enough.)

But what evidence do you base the assumption on, that those were not actually a pedo ring? Cause it's anything but implausible. My ex met one baby-raping dad herself. I reported one server maintainer myself, who offered that shit to me. I know the types. There's quite a few out

As a privacy professional who does a lot of research into the world of databrokers, I am constantly surprised by the new ways that data is used to profile people. Thousands of "innovators" are imagining new "insights" that can squeeze out of my data, and most of those predictions will not be used to my advantage.

If I know anything, it's that I can no longer oversee it. But what I do feel certain about is that the current abuses are just the tip of the iceberg.

From that perspective it pains me to hear a judge proclaim that that everything is under control with such certainty.

    • GDPR.
Had quite the impact here. No, they did not all stop. But you are told in advance now, and can usually choose not to. Plus data usage generally is curbed, as certain things just aren't postable on a poster on the door of a shop or tram, due to the social backlash.

And the criminals who do not oblige (like Google partially), are actually sued and forced.

I don't know who got the creeps behind te curtain who control the world leaders to finally care for of
privacy, but tjat guy or gal deserves a medal. One

    Anybody? [sound of crickets]

    • "cut off foreign aid for trading with oppressive regimes", proclaimed PPH, while sitting on a chair made in China, in front of a computer made in China.
      • Yeah, like you, Mr. Armchair Holier-er-than-thou . And he would have bought the one made in NotChina, if it had been an easy choice.

At least his spirit is right. First step towards more.
        And where are you?

    • Uh honey, guess you didn't know your "foreign aid" is in the form of credits to buy US made weapons. Where do you think they got the money for them F-35 fighters? So that "foreign aid" actually supports your military industry. Who else you gonna sell to? Germany? China? Iceland?
  • If it was any other middle-eastern state, we'd be talking about bombing them right now.

Israel truly is truly trampling on the corpses of Jewish WWII victims with spiked ice climber boots. They'd be best friends with Saudis and Russian Nazis if they weren't in the other camp. ;)

The whole thing is ridiculous. As average Israeli Jews are very nice people, except for that one thing where their eyes turn blood red and they start talking like SS Hitler Youth boys. (And my grandma met those and told my about them.

Well of course. When an organization is reporting on your human rights violations, there would be no amount of evidence they could produce to show harm. Wouldn't want the world to know how much you learned from the Nazis and are applying the same tactics.
