Which version? There are multiple Lynx ports to OS/2, ya know. :-)
I prefer Links under Warp 4 myself, especially the 2.xx port with the -g option.

On a (only) slightly more serious note, I have wished that more sites had better support for Lynx, just 'cause it would render faster and more reliably on a mobile Lynx browser on my phone.

Didn't you know, it was a subtle reference to idiocracy that nobody got. They were forced to switch to text-only consoles, or have people really trying to punch the monkey, simultaneously breaking the screen and their hands. I use Lynx at work.
It fools the boss - he thinks I'm hacking to the code, when I'm actually surfing the net. Now if only someone developed a text browser that wasn't limited to a tiny 80x25 screen.

There is a lot to be said for a text-only, script-immune interface. And whilst nobody could say that Links is impervious to attack, it's obviously not going to be on the radar of most cross-site/browser-exploiting evil doers.

If you want to make a good, truly funny April's Fool joke, you should have a very minimum of talent/inspiration, which the Slashdot editors don't.
You will notice that on Slashdot, on the 1st of April, there isn't one hidden joke-story submission, but that they are all or almost all such. This makes ALL of them un-funny. There's not "ha, you got me!" or "OK, that was actually a creative one." - there's nothing. It only really makes Slashdot look utterly, pitifully pathetic.

The slashdot editors don't write most of this stuff; they just link to other stories written by other people. On April 1st, most of the stories out there tend to be jokes since that's what everyone's publishing. I suppose slashdot editors could ignore the huge amount of joke stories out there but they probably find this to be way more fun. I think the problem is a lot of people expect slashdot to be a news site when it's really basically a blog.

This is from last week.
We have a bunch of linux boxes in the lab, for automated testing stuff. One of my coworkers, with a masters' degree in electrical engineering, was setting up a test system and I being the resident expert on writing the ATE programs, went back to help him. All we had was a crummy old 13" monitor, but that's fine: it'll save space. Unfortunately that resolution isn't handled gracefully by the system, so xwindows wouldn't start. That's fine: I do all my work from the shell anyway. It's all scripting. So I'm trying to get this monster HP power supply to turn on, and it won't do a thing; it must have a different GPIB command. So I fired up lynx and went to google to find out what.
My coworker is all "what's *that*?"
I blinked and said "lynx."
"You can look at google text-only?"
"Well, yeah..."
"WHY? Why would anyone make a text-only browser? What's the point of THAT?"
I pointed at the screen, where a kindly webpage had a nice text summary of GPIB commands that showed me how to set the power supply output voltage and turn it on.
