An Anonymous reader writes with a news of the 3rd annual Hack In the Box security conference. "There's about 2 weeks left before the biggest network security event in Asia kicks off! HITBSecConf2004 looks set to rock the house with Theo de Raadt and Captain Crunch himself down to present the keynotes. Other highlights include the Capture The Flag 'Live Hacking' Competition, a technology showcase/exhibition and three tracks of DEEP KNOWLEDGE technical presentations."

I wouldn't have expected this sort of event to be allowed by authorities. Maybe the Chinese government just has a bunch of undercover guys at the convention?

  As far as I understood the question was about xcon. Well, I can assure you - not. Authorities are busy with other things, to be bothered with things like a computer con. Further - its sort of politics in china to support people interest to IT security, you just have to make sure you don't 'own' chinese networks...

    Yes, I live in America, but if it counts for anything, my parents are both Asian (mom from China, dad from Taiwan). I researched the "Great Firewall" a bit, and knowing what I do about China's past, I don't think it's that far-fetched to think that the government might get squirrely over a security conference. Hell, they cracked down on Falun Gong didn't they? And all they do is medidate in groups.
