Journal fullofcrap's Journal: Professional Politicians, the bane of existence.
For a very long time I have said that professional politicians suck. And let me preface this by giving you what my definition of a professional politician is.
It is someone that is in it for themselves. They could care less about their constituents, and those they were elected to represent. They are after the all mighty dollar, not again for their constituents. But for themselves.
They know they are going to have a shelf life at some point, granted there are those in politics that it seems were born in the halls of congress and will die of old age there. Lots of oil and tobacco money wondering around those halls folks..
What I am talking about are those that are going into government to better themselves, and their careers. So that when they are out, they have nice cushy CEO jobs waiting for them. Or 7 figure incomes coming in from becoming a lobbyist and using their "ties" to help out their fat cat special interest groups squash information on alternative fuel sources, or drugs that either killing folks or just had a rate increase in 1 year of over 2000 percent.
These are the folks that make me want to hurl. Now to play the devils advocate, I have to say, we elected these vermin. So we got what we asked for. Our society has become so much about the me, we are worried only about ourselves and our little existences. We don't take time to educate ourselves about all the crap that goes on in the background. When was the last time you looked over some of the currently purposed legislation? What kind of crap has been attached to those bills?
If we don't take the time to educate ourselves better, on what is happening around us, how in the world can we complain when things go awry? I challenge each and everyone of you to take some time, and do some research on the net about legislation getting ready to pass in your neighborhood. You might find yourself very surprised to say the least.
And for the politicians out there, I challenge you. I challenge you to stand up for what is right, and ignore those fat cats swinging around money and perks. You are here for the people, by the people. And don't you ever forget that, we are the ones that elected you. Get off your duffs and make a stand, make a change.
There is so much going on out there that needs fixed, and fixed without compromise. Educators need more funds, schools need money to assure our future leaders are well educated as well as our future factory workers. Education is not a "given" anymore for the vast majority of our youth, and it shouldn't be that way. Every child who has the desire and willingness to put their shoulders to a grind stone and learn more, should be given the opportunity to do so.
Why do we have family's living day by day, that work hard and hold steady jobs, but still cant seem to get ahead? Because there is a fundamental break down in a social infrastructure that helps promote self reliance and the ability to get ahead. Government cant give everything away on a silver platter, and take charge of peoples lives to the point they are just lemmings waiting for that one last doozy of a step. But, government can help remove some of the hurdles to success, rather than creating them in the first place.
I say we enact strict term limits for politicians, and yes I know that is a double edges sword, but too many fat cat politicians have been mooching off the public for far too long. In addition, if your in politics, you should not be allowed to be employed for a certain amount of time after your term is over, by special interest groups, lobbying firms, etc...
There should be cap limits set on earnings. The day of the politicians bloated paycheck, needs to come to an end. I believe the deserve a better than average rate of pay, but not SIGNIFICANTLY larger. Perhaps we should look at the median average income for that politicians state, and base their incomes off of that number? Maybe that might make them want to see their constituents do better financially? And special interest money, lobbyist monies, etc.. should NOT be allowed to come into their hands ever while they are in office, or for that cool off period after they leave office.
I also think that they should be held accountable for such things as attendance. Humm, did I say that out loud? They are there for their constituents, and their best interests. To pass bills to help the people, and to assure bills that are not in the best interest of the people, are not passed. How can they do that, if they attend only a fraction of the sessions they should? If you or I missed work every fourth day, would be have a job?
In summary, I detest those that place themselves in positions of authority, with no true intentions of doing what is right for the people. They are after padding their wallets, and assuring they have a very lucrative job after their term is over. Makes me sick.
Yours truly,
Frank E.
