nk497 writes "Microsoft is tweaking its Windows Update system to make it less annoying to users. In Windows 8, it will only force PCs to restart once a month (unless there's a significant security threat) and give users a three-day warning first. If the PC isn't restarted in those three days, the machine will still be automatically restarted, but Windows will wait until no data is at risk of being lost. It will also stop popping up update notifications when the PC is in presentation mode, to avoid awkward moments in meetings."

Well, that's good... (Score:3)
What took them so long? Unfortunately, you still have to put up with Adobe's (and other third party) reboots. Still nowhere close to Linux. The only time you have to boot a Linux box is updating the kernel, replacing hardware, or saving electricity. Updating an application only requires a restart of that particular app, not the whole damned computer.
